UCF bearings are a standardized designation system for insert ball bearings with housings. The name implies clear structural features: "UC" stands for "insert ball bearing with set screws" and "F" refers to "square housing". This bearing unit integrates the rolling bearing and the housing into one unit and is a modular component that is ready for installation.
------From the perspective of international standards, UCF belongs to the product code system of Japanese bearing companies such as NTN and NSK. In the Chinese standard JB/T 6640-2007, it corresponds to the code "UCFU", which specifically refers to the square seat set screw type structure.
Core Design of UCF Bearings:
The outer surface of the outer ring is spherical, which matches the spherical inner hole of the bearing seat. This structure gives the bearing a certain self-aligning ability (usually allowing a maximum axis deviation of 2.5°), which can effectively compensate for deviations caused by shaft bending or poor installation alignment. The bearing is pre-filled with grease and equipped with a double seal structure when it leaves the factory. It has the characteristics of long-term stable operation in harsh environments such as dust and moisture, which greatly simplifies the on-site installation and maintenance process.

Common materials and characteristics of UCF bearings
The material selection of UCF bearings directly affects their performance and applicable scenarios. They mainly include three types of materials: bearing body, seat body and sealing components.
What is Bearing body material?
The mainstream uses high carbon chromium bearing steel GCr15 (fully hardened type), which provides excellent wear resistance and fatigue strength; in corrosive environments, stainless bearing steel AISI440 (9Cr18) is used to take into account both rust prevention and mechanical properties. Special applications such as food machinery even use nickel-plated brass or chrome steel to meet hygiene and chemical corrosion resistance requirements.
What's seat material?
Square seat (F type) is mainly made of cast iron (such as gray cast iron), which has high rigidity and vibration reduction characteristics and is suitable for heavy-duty industrial environments; for lightweight or corrosion-resistant scenarios, reinforced polypropylene (PP+glass fiber) is used, and the surface is covered with AISI 304 stainless steel. This type of design is common in food processing and pharmaceutical equipment.
What's the auxiliary components material?
The sealing ring is usually made of NBR nitrile rubber, which balances wear resistance and elasticity; the cage is made of F1 carbon steel stampings; the eccentric sleeve and top screw are made of surface-hardened chrome steel.
Analysis of the structural design of UCF bearings
The UCF bearing unit is a precision combination of an outer spherical bearing and a square seat. Its structural design includes the following key features:
Tightening mechanism
UC bearings have set screws on the inner ring flange, which can be directly locked on the optical axis without the need for shoulder positioning. This structure is more convenient for axial position adjustment than UK type (tapered hole) and UEL type (eccentric sleeve). When tightening the screws, please note: the axial load must not exceed 20% of the rated dynamic load to avoid loosening due to overload.
Sealing system
It uses double-sided contact seals (usually steel frame + rubber lip seals) and is filled with long-lasting lithium-based grease. The sealing structure can effectively prevent dust and water vapor from invading and achieve lifelong lubrication (under moderate working conditions).
Seat installation design
The bottom of the square seat is machined with four mounting holes, which are fixed to the equipment base by bolts. The hole spacing is standardized (such as 70×70mm for UCF205) to ensure interchangeability. The boss design (such as UCFS type) is convenient for installation in narrow spaces.
Core characteristics and technical advantages of UCF bearings
UCF bearings exhibit several outstanding characteristics in industrial applications:
The combination of the spherical outer diameter and the ball socket provides a ±1°-2.5° centering range to compensate for shaft bending or centering errors, especially suitable for long shaft systems (such as conveyors)
The double seal design (often with dust cover) makes the protection level reach IP55 or above. The factory pre-lubricated design eliminates the cleaning and initial oiling process, reducing maintenance costs.
Taking UCF212-J7 as an example, its basic rated dynamic load is up to 52,000N, fatigue load limit is 1,530N, and operating temperature range is -20℃~120℃, which is suitable for heavy load and temperature fluctuation environment. The gray cast iron body further improves the system stiffness and damping characteristics
The integrated structure eliminates the need for centering adjustment between the bearing and the seat, and the square seat can be directly fixed with bolts, shortening the equipment assembly time by more than 40%. The installation of a typical model such as UCF211 only requires tightening the top screw and base bolts.
