1.16 million TEUs! Ningbo-Zhoushan Port's single terminal breaks monthly container volume record
On February 12, the weather forecast showed that the lowest temperature was only in the single digit. In the bitter cold wind, Zhao Yun and Ge Ao, officers of the Logistics Monitoring Section 2 of Meishan Customs under Ningbo Customs, arrived at berth 2 of Meidong Container Terminal to start a new day of boarding inspection of international ships.
In January, the container throughput of Meishan Port of Ningbo Zhoushan Port exceeded 1.16 million TEUs, an increase of 16% year-on-year, breaking the monthly container volume record of a single terminal of Ningbo Zhoushan Port. As a port supervision unit, Meishan Customs optimized supervision services and took multiple measures to help Meishan Port achieve a "good start" in the new year. Regardless of the Spring Festival holiday or the cold wave, customs officers always stick to the front line of the port, and boarding inspections are an ordinary daily routine.
In 2024, the container throughput of Meishan Port will reach 11 million TEUs, becoming the second "million-teu" single container terminal of Ningbo Zhoushan Port. In 2025, with the adjustment of routes such as the "Twin Star" Alliance to Meishan and the advancement of a number of key projects, the development potential of Meishan Port will be released again.
"During the Spring Festival, Meishan Customs promptly understood the container storage situation and corporate needs of Meishan Port, and through reasonable allocation of human resources, organized an emergency team to actively respond to the peak of exports before the festival and fully ensure the smooth flow of port logistics business." Said Cao Wenqing, deputy chief of the Logistics Monitoring Section 1 of Meishan Customs.
In addition, the customs fully relies on the construction of smart ports, based on safe smart locks, iteratively upgrades the hardware equipment of the card gate, expands the application of smart inspection and sealing, makes good use of the "tidal lane", improves the efficiency of port logistics, and promotes the convenient operation mode of water-to-water transit such as "departure confirmation", giving full play to the efficient and convenient combination advantages of multimodal transport, effectively shortening the customs clearance time of the transit link, and enhancing the radiation effect of Meishan Port on the surrounding areas.
