A one-way bearing is a kind of bearing that can rotate freely in one direction and lock in the other direction. One-way bearings are also called overrunning clutches, but they are named according to different industries and different functions. The metal shell of a one-way bearing contains a lot of rollers, needles or balls, and the shape of its rolling seat (cavity) makes it only roll in one direction, and it will produce a lot of resistance in the other direction ( The so-called "one-way").


The working principle of one-way bearing
1. Wedge design
This wedge-type one-way overrunning clutch is generally composed of an inner ring, an outer ring, a wedge group, a wedge cage, a powerful spring and a bearing. The wedges transfer force from one raceway to the other raceway by wedging between the inner and outer rings. The wedge has two diagonal diameters, (that is, the distance from one corner of the wedge to the other diagonal) one of them is larger than the other. The wedge action occurs when the inner and outer rings rotate relative to each other, forcing the wedge to have a larger vertical position on a larger cross section.
2. The wedge function of the self-locking angle mainly depends on the wedging and self-locking angle of the wedge between the inner and outer rings.
The basic concept of the wedge one-way clutch requires that the friction coefficient of the wedge is related to the sudden torque generated by the inner ring in the driving direction. This friction value must be greater than the tangent value of the self-locking angle. If the conditions are not safe, wedging will not happen.
The self-locking angle is determined by the structure of the wedge, and the points on the inner and outer rings are connected with the wedge respectively. The design of the wedge has a very low initial self-locking angle to ensure an absolute bond at the beginning. As the torque increases, a radial force will be generated on the wedge that deflects the wedge raceway, causing the wedge to roll to a new position. The wedge is often designed to have a self-locking angle that can be gradually increased, the same as it goes from the overriding position to the position where the load is maximum. A relatively large self-locking angle can reduce the radial force generated by the wedge, so as long as the elongation and the Brinell hardness limit are required to allow a larger torque to be transmitted
3. Slope and roller design
Slope and roller type one-way clutches are basically composed of a cylindrical inner diameter outer ring, an inner ring with a slope, and a set of rollers that bear the spring force and are always in close contact with the inner and outer rings. As long as the rotation of one of the raceways in the direction of its motion has an effect on the other, this arrangement essentially ensures the immediateness of the overrun speed and the immediate driving capability.
Using this type of one-way clutch can be suitable for overtaking, indexing and non-reverse use in various environments.
Types of bearing noise
The vibration of rolling bearings is the root cause of bearing noise, and different bearing noises come from different types of bearing vibrations. Like bearing vibration, the mechanism of bearing noise is also very complicated. According to the characteristics of bearing noise, bearing noise can be divided into the following forms:
The noise generated by the structural type, size and other factors of the bearing is the basic noise: such as the noise generated by the elastic deformation of the bearing, the rolling elements, the clearance, and the cage.
Noise caused by bearing surface effects: such as the noise caused by the roundness, waviness, roughness, and defects of the inner and outer rings of the bearing and the working surface of the steel ball. A large number of experimental studies have shown that the surface quality of the outer ring, inner ring and steel balls of deep groove ball bearings has a ratio of 1:3:10, and the surface quality of steel balls has the greatest impact on the noise of deep groove ball bearings. .
Noise generated by friction and lubrication: friction and lubrication have a great influence on the noise of rolling bearings. If the friction is small and the lubrication is good, the noise generated by the bearing is small.
Causes of bearing noise
Excited vibration due to changes in the number of loaded rolling elements: When a radial load is loaded on a certain bearing, the number of rolling elements carrying the load will slightly change during operation, causing the deviation of the load direction. The resulting vibration is unavoidable, but it can be reduced by axial preloading, which is loaded on all rolling elements (not applicable to cylindrical roller bearings).
Noise caused by working conditions: bearing load, speed, and installation and coordination status directly affect the production of bearing noise. The higher the bearing speed and the greater the load, the greater the noise generated by the bearing. In addition, related studies have shown that 50% of bearing noise is caused by poor installation.
Partial damage: due to incorrect operation or installation, a small part of the bearing raceways and rolling elements may be damaged. In operation, damaged bearing components will produce specific vibration frequencies; vibration frequency analysis can identify damaged bearing components. This principle has been applied to condition monitoring equipment to monitor bearing damage.
